DBP-rookie-poster

Davis Bike Polo is organizing a tournament, May 21-22nd at West Manor Park in Davis, California, for new bike polo players to help promote our sport and build our community.

UPDATE: A “rookie” for the purpose of this tournament, is a player who’s played for no longer than 1.5 year (1 year, 6 month) OR this tournament would be their first tournament.  Not a rookie? That’s cool, you can still come hangout and cheer them on!

This all rookie tournament will be the first in the state of California and the first in our region, and we’re very proud to be hosting and supporting new players. The goals of this tournament are to:

+ support new players in the sport
+ introduce new players to tournament play
+ build new player’s knowledge of the rules
+ give them their own space to showcase their growing skills
+ give them the opportunity to play with others of their own level
+ help new players build their network and meet new people in the community
+ help introduce Davis Bike Polo rookies to organizing and running a tournament

This tournament will be a two-day event and will host between 40-60 players, organizers and spectators. Davis Bike Polo will be organizing the event, helping out-of-state players with transportation, and providing housing and food.

Club and Clubmates: How you can help!

What better way to support your new players then helping them preparing for this tournament? Here are some ways you can help your new players get to and play in this tournament:

+ Make sure they get to this blog post and also find the FB event page so they get the info they need about the tourney
+ Make sure they create an account on Podium, if they don’t have one already
+ Make sure they get signed-up on the Google Doc: http://tinyurl.com/j7knkyj
+Make yourself available for any questions they may have about the rules, using Podium, how to pack their bike, how a tournament is usually run, etc.
+ Help connect them to other new players you think they might want to team up with, often the hardest part about playing in your first tournament is finding people to play with!
+ Maybe talk to the rest of your club and help sponsor your city’s rookie to travel to this tournament

We also encourage clubmates to attend to hangout and cheer for their rookies! 🙂

We look forward to seeing everyone! Please let us know if you have any questions or suggestions !
