Player Profile: Slaymantha

“Player Profiles” is a new blog series Davis Bike Polo will be doing to feature its players, their stories and experiences in bike polo! Stay tuned to meet the crew here in Davis!

This week we’d like to introduce you to Sam, aka “Slaymantha”! Sam’s played with Davis for about 3 months and she’s a totally slayer on the court! After you read about Sam here, make sure to check out her band, Eloping Gophers and her Soundcloud to hear her amazing voice!

Slaymantha-5 (1)Who introduced you to bike polo?

One of my best friends, Aidan. Couldn’t thank him enough.

What was your first impression of bike polo?

It looked super intense and intimidating, seeing all the players doing these awesome tricks and endo turns. I thought I’d fall off my bike immediately!

What’s it like to be a bike polo player?

Being a bike polo player is rad. I’ve never felt so accepted in a sport.

What do you find most challenging about playing bike polo?

The one thing I know will take forever for me to conquer is being goalie… without falling off my bike.

What do you like best about bike polo?

The community of bike polo is so diverse. Everyone I’ve played with has been awesome, and hilarious, and super supportive!

What would you tell someone who is thinking about trying bike polo?

Just hop on a bike and get out there!!

What do you do when you aren’t playing bike polo?

I’m a musician and an artist, so whenever I’m not playing bike polo you can probably find me somewhere playing a guitar or writing a new song.

Any goals you’ve set for yourself this coming season?

I want to learn how to stay on my bike when I’m goalie, take more correctly aimed shots, and possibly learn to endo!

What piece of advice would you give someone just starting out in polo?

Don’t be afraid! Also, be careful because bike polo is extreme addicting. 🙂
